Medical-Grade Peels

Chemical Peels come in many varieties for all different types of skin and problems. Peels are an effective way to treat common conditions such as sun damage, age spots, freckles, melasma, acne and hyper-pigmentation. They can also help to reduce wrinkles, acne scars and fine lines. The proper peel can also decrease pore size, improve the tone and texture of skin as well as brighten and lighten the skin as it helps to stimulate your own collagen to create a firmer, more youthful appearance.

Gentle Touch Aesthetics offers both non-medical grade peels such as the Pumpkin and Papaya Enzyme Peels as well as medical-grade peels such as the PCA, Cosmo and Spot Peels. All of our peels are of the finest quality products available and are administered by our knowledgeable medical aesthetician, Caroline, or Dr. Katie.

An initial consultation will help us decide which treatment is best for you depending on your skin type and problem areas. In some cases, the medical grade peels offer best results when combined with pre-treatment and conditioning of the skin by means of microdermabrasion or a few less-invasive peels of increasing intensity. Those brown spots and fine lines took years to accumulate; gradual treatments with a peel series are often the best treatment option with no significant downtime. IPL can also be done to complete the improvements in some cases.

Precision MD Cosmo and Spot Peels

medicalgrade2The Spot and Cosmo Peels
and their post-procedure Homecare systems are excellent products which contain TCA and glycolic combined with other ingredients which make them a great alternative to other treatments that contain hydroquinone. The PMD peels contain combinations of ingredients that are effective in reducing fine lines, wrinkles and brown spots including sun damaged areas and melasma. These peels will improve many existing damages to the skin including enlarged pores, blotchy pigmentation, white heads, black heads, superficial scars, sun damage, age spots and fine lines/wrinkles on any treated areas of the face, neck and décolleté. Peels may also be used on the arms in some cases.

The treatment begins with an in-office application of the peel solutions. Following a medical grade peel your skin may be slightly pink and a little flakey. After that, there will be the appearance of the dark spots coming to the surface for a few days. These will soon flake off.

Many patients feel that at about six weeks post-op, the results of the medical grade peels cannot be differentiated from the results of CO2 fraxel laser treatments. But the peels have little or no downtime!

Cautions: Retinoids and retinols need to be avoided for several weeks prior to a chemical peel. A few days of “downtime” is to be expected although most can conceal the temporary discoloration changes with make up. Strict adherence to avoiding sun, using broad spectrum sunblock, hats etc. are recommended both pre and post-procedure for a few weeks. Many patients, including darker skinned individuals, may need to have more gradual treatment with a series of 2 or 3 peels to avoid stimulating the melanocytes to form more brown pigment spots.
