Micro-Needling with DermaPen
What is Micro needling?
One of the newest innovations in skin care revitalization in the anti-aging arena is micro needling.
The technique has been called a “quick fix that has lasting results” and the results after just one or a series of 3-4 treatments has been favorably compared to more invasive procedures such as laser treatments . For most clients and patients at Dr. Katie’s Beautiful You Aesthetics there is not more than a few hours of “downtime” until one can get back to their social plans. We use the finest serums for infusion and deep penetration with the micro needling treatments. We also have post-treatment creams with healing-ingredients which may be applied immediately afterward so you can leave the office looking better than when you came in!
How does Micro needling work?
Micro-needling creates thousands of tiny channels deep into the skin which allows for penetration of the serums used during the procedure to the deeper layers of the skin. This deeper level is where collagen, fibroblasts and elastin cells reside. The micro needling process stimulates those cells to reproduce and the result is a softening of fine lines and wrinkles, tightening of pores and minimizing scars by a “filling in” process of your own tissue. The increased collagen and other supporting tissues created by the process also lead to improved texture and tone of the skin, transforming it to an improved and younger appearance over the weeks following the procedures.
Which device is best for Micro needling?
At Dr. Katie’s Beautiful You Aesthetics we have tried several of the micro needling devices marketed to professionals. We currently prefer the DermaPen which moves smoothly over the skin as it employs an adjustable cluster of tiny needles that move rapidly up and down and gently prick the skin with literally thousands of tiny holes into the dermis. The procedure is done with disposable needle cartridges in a safe and sterile environment. The penetrating tiny needles allow access for the deep infusion of anti-aging products including serums with peptides, anti-oxidants, hyaluronic acid (HA), growth factors and even human stem cells deep into the dermis where they can do the most good. Brown “sun spots” can also be treated with micro needling with infusions of safe lightening agents. At our facility, micro-needling does all of that with a minimum of downtime. There is no damage from the heat that occurs with many laser treatments. Micro needling is also a more affordable alternative to some expensive laser treatments.
What areas can be treated with Micro needling?
Unlike the clumsy, handheld rollers of the past, the electric DermaPen cartridges are sterile and disposable with tiny needles that can be adjusted for different areas and thicknesses of skin such as the thinner skin of the forehead and areas around the eyes and mouth vs. the relatively thicker skin of the cheeks and chin. The neck, decollete’, hands and arms can also be treated with micro needling as well as other areas including scars on the face, back, legs, abdomen or shoulders.
How can I get the best results with Micro needling?
Micro-needling results are best when the procedure is done as a series of 3-4 treatments, each one building on the results of the last. Alas, It is unfortunately true that nothing lasts forever but several months after a series of treatments has been completed, some patients return for a single “touch up” or maintenance treatment. At Dr Katie’s Beautiful You med spa you will first have a consultation to determine which treatment may be best for you and also the number of treatments we would suggest for optimal results.
